BIOGRAPHY
JAMES B
“Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world” – Miyamoto Musashi
James Brusius is a Filipino-American tattoo artist specializing in black and grey neotraditional style artwork with a pervading interest in botanicals, animals, and occult imagery. James’ work is characterized by understanding of natural flow of objects and compositions, utilization of lighting to sculpt objects, and references to art and nature. At its core, James’ aesthetic approach is predominantly inspired via artistic visualization of images with which he interacts on a daily basis filtered through the lens of macabre. Something as beautiful and commonplace as a woman’s sun-flecked curls in the daylight can invoke in his mind’s eye the curved edges of a penumbra cast by blood soaked moonlight.
When not tattooing, James enjoys reading the works of Junji Ito and Kentaro Miura, watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, listening to Tosin Abasi, riding / working on his Harley Davidson FXLRS Softail Lowrider S, and drawing new concepts.
